An open fireplace pulls heated air straight up the chimney all night, and when the fire is out the cold comes back down the same way. Glass doors close that off. They also keep sparks off the carpet and stop children and pets getting to hot brick. We measure your firebox opening, order doors that actually fit it, and fit them properly — squared, sealed at the frame, and opening smoothly on both sides.

Most masonry fireplaces will take doors, but the opening has to be measured first — width, height, and the surface the frame lands on. Some openings are arched, out of square, or have a raised hearth that changes what will sit flush. I measure it, photograph it, and tell you what your opening will take.
They cut down the cold air coming into the room when the fireplace is not in use, which is the main reason people call about them. They are not an airtight seal, and they do not fix a damper that has failed. If the damper is the real problem, you will see it in the photos and I will say so instead of selling you doors.
It depends on the doors and on the fireplace they are fitted to. Many sets are meant to be fully open while the fire is burning and closed once it has burned down to embers, and running them the wrong way can crack the glass. I will show you how the set on your fireplace is meant to be used before I leave.
